2016 BOND UPDATE

On behalf of the Board of Education, the staff and students of Hamilton Community Schools we THANK the community for supporting the bond proposal approved in May. As we move forward we will use the this webpage and The Transcript as tools to keep students, parents and the community updated on our progress. At this point, we are very early in the process and our update, while brief, we hope shows that work has begun and the impact will be seen as soon as the start of the school year.

On Monday, August 8th the Board of Education approved the construction manager for our coming work and we are happy to add Owen Ames Kimball to our overall bond team. They have joined GMB Architects and Engineers as we are starting the planning process for the work to be completed during the summer of 2017 which will include a new restroom/concessions building between the soccer and softball fields as well as the new track and football field. We have also started to work on draft plans for the new secure entrance at the high school and it's construction next summer.

We have also been working on technological upgrades this summer and those include:

1.)    One of the first technology projects to come to fruition with the 2016 bond proceeds is the upgrade of our outdated phone system. We are finishing up the installation of the new ShoreTel system that will allow us to better communicate and serve our parents, families and the community. In addition to some of the modern features like the ability to manage incoming calls from a computer console, the system provides some of the more basic features like the ability to transfer calls between schools – something that is not available with the old system.

2.)    A second bond-funded technology project to be implemented for the 2016/2017 school year is the replacement of some of the oldest computers in the district. Ninety new Chromebooks and 28 new iPads will replace computers that are 10+ years old, enabling students to be more engaged in their learning and providing teachers with an increased ability to differentiate lessons for their students.

We look forward to providing more updates as our work progresses and please don't hesitate to call or email with questions and concerns at (269) 751-5148 or dtebo@hamiltonschools.us.
