Hamilton Recreation Soccer is played in the fall. Practices begin in late August and games begin the Saturday after Labor Day. Players are organized into four divisions based on age as of July 31 of the playing year, U6, U8, U10, and U12. A U10 player is a player who was under age 10 on July 31 of that year. Typically U12 has 5th and 6th grade players, U10 has 3rd and 4th grade players, U8 has 1st and 2nd grade players, and U6 has kindergarten and pre-school aged players. The minimum age for play is 4 years and 6 months as of July 31.
The rules advance as the players get older. U6 starts with 4v4 players, very general rules, small and simple fields, and coaches are allowed on the field. In U8, more players are added, the field is bigger, there are more lines on the field, the coach stays on the sideline, and the games have referees. By the time a player is U12 they are playing 11v11 on a full sized field with FIFA rules and 3 referees.
Registration typically begins in early-May and ends at the end of the school year for the coming fall.
