Hamilton High School has once again earned national recognition from U.S. News & World Report, climbing more than 1,000 positions in the publication’s latest Best High Schools rankings.
HHS is ranked No. 4,468 nationally for 2026-27—an improvement of 1,022 positions from its verified No. 5,490 ranking in 2023-24. Hamilton is now among the top 25% of ranked public high schools nationwide.
The school also ranks No. 165 in Michigan and No. 3 in the area.
“This continued climb in the national rankings is something our entire Hawkeye community can be proud of. The high school is a culmination of all those teachers and experiences our students have had with us and before us.” said Hamilton High School Principal Mitch Bosch. “While the recognition is exciting, what makes us most proud is what it represents- the daily work of our students and staff continuing to trend upward. Our students, offerings, building, and district continue to grow and provide exceptional opportunities for students to plan and experience their future while in high school. We are in that moment of rising tides lifting all boats.”
U.S. News evaluates public high schools using several measures of student success, including college readiness, state assessment performance, graduation rates, achievement among historically underserved students and access to advanced coursework.
Hamilton’s latest results show several areas of strength. Hamilton students outperformed Michigan averages in every academic area measured, including mathematics, reading and science. The school’s strongest comparative performance came in mathematics, where Hamilton exceeded the statewide proficiency rate by 19 percentage points. Students also surpassed state averages in both reading and science by 9 percentage points.
College readiness and access to advanced coursework also contributed to the school’s standing. Hamilton’s College Curriculum Breadth Index ranked No. 2,307 nationally and No. 77 in Michigan, while its College Readiness Index ranked No. 3,480 nationally and No. 112 in the state.
Hamilton students can choose from a growing range of opportunities designed to meet their individual interests and goals. These include Advanced Placement courses, Dual Enrollment, Early College, Career and Technical Education, work-based learning experiences, industry-recognized certifications and career-focused programs.
Those opportunities allow students to earn college credit, explore potential careers and develop valuable skills before graduating—whether their next step is college, the workforce, military service or the skilled trades.
The newest rankings are based on data from the 2023-24 school year, meaning more recent student accomplishments are not yet reflected. Hamilton’s strong 2025 Advanced Placement results—including seven courses in which more than 80% of students earned a qualifying score of three or higher—provide another encouraging indicator for the school’s continued progress.
The latest recognition adds to a growing list of accomplishments across Hamilton Community Schools and reinforces the district’s commitment to ensuring every student graduates Prepared for Purpose and Prepared for Life.
