Hamilton Graduate Grant Wolfram Earns Two Victories in Three Days Against the Hometown Detroit Tigers

Hamilton High School graduate Grant Wolfram enjoyed a memorable homecoming this week, earning two victories for the Baltimore Orioles against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

Wolfram’s first victory came Monday, July 27, when the 6-foot-8 left-handed reliever retired all four batters he faced during Baltimore’s 8-5 win.

He entered with two outs in the sixth inning and struck out Tigers infielder Kevin McGonigle to end the frame. Wolfram returned for the seventh and retired the heart of Detroit’s lineup in order, inducing a flyout from Dillon Dingler, striking out Gleyber Torres and retiring Riley Greene on another fly ball.

Wolfram threw 17 pitches, allowed no hits or walks and recorded two strikeouts across 1⅓ perfect innings. The performance earned him his third victory of the 2026 season.

Just two days later, Wolfram returned to the mound and picked up another win in one of Baltimore’s most dramatic games of the season.

The Orioles trailed 7-0 after six innings Wednesday, July 29, before rallying to defeat the Tigers, 10-9, in 12 innings. It marked Baltimore’s largest comeback since 2009.

Wolfram entered with two outs in the bottom of the 11th and retired McGonigle on a fly ball to keep the game tied. After Baltimore moved ahead in the top of the 12th, Wolfram returned to strike out Dingler and retire Greene on a groundout. He allowed no hits and no runs while recording one strikeout over one inning.

The victory improved Wolfram’s record to 4-2 this season and lowered his ERA to 4.09. It was his second win in three days, his fourth of the season and the seventh of his Major League career.

The setting added another memorable chapter to Wolfram’s journey. The 2015 Hamilton High School graduate was originally selected by the Tigers in the 17th round of the 2015 MLB Draft and later made his Major League debut at Comerica Park with Baltimore in April 2025.

“It’s a lifelong dream of mine... I’ve wanted to be a professional baseball player playing in the major leagues,” Wolfram said during a previous visit home to Hamilton. “I’m just blessed and thankful that God gives me the opportunity to continue to pursue my baseball career.”
