Student safety remains a primary focus for Hamilton Community Schools, especially along 136th Avenue in front of Hamilton Middle School and Hamilton High School—one of the district’s busiest areas before and after school.
To help improve safety and alert drivers, new school zone speed signs were installed this summer near the secondary campus. The signs feature flashing yellow lights that indicate when the school zone speed limit of 25 mph is in effect.
The lights will flash during the following times each school day:
7:05–8:15 a.m.
2:05–3:15 p.m.
These times allow the signs to operate before students arrive and remain active after classes begin, as well as before and after dismissal.
Hamilton Community Schools Resource Officer Deputy John Dekkinga and other area deputies will continue monitoring traffic along 136th Avenue during the morning and afternoon to help ensure drivers are traveling at safe and appropriate speeds.
Families, students, staff and community members are reminded to remain attentive while traveling through the area. When the yellow lights are flashing, drivers must slow down to 25 mph.
Thank you for slowing down, staying alert and helping Hamilton Community Schools keep students, staff and families safe throughout the school year.
