Hamilton Elementary ranks No. 47 in Michigan; Hamilton High School continues its climb in the national rankings

Hamilton Community Schools is proud to share that all five of its eligible schools have earned recognition in the latest U.S. News & World Report school rankings.

Hamilton High School was named to the 2026–27 Best High Schools list in August. On October 20, U.S. News released its 2027 Best Elementary and Middle Schools rankings, recognizing Hamilton Middle School, Blue Star Elementary, Bentheim Elementary and Hamilton Elementary.

Hamilton Elementary earned a particularly notable distinction, ranking No. 47 among Michigan elementary schools.

How the U.S. News rankings work

The 2027 rankings draw on data from state education agencies and the U.S. Department of Education. For elementary and middle schools, U.S. News considers student performance in mathematics and reading/language arts, along with student demographic context. The updated methodology incorporates state data across all proficiency levels to assess both academic achievement and school effectiveness. Student-teacher ratios are used to break ties in overall scores.

Schools receive an overall score on a 0–100 scale and a rank within their state. Hamilton Elementary’s No. 47 placement is its position among Michigan elementary schools.

Hamilton High School also earned strong recognition in its latest ranking. It placed No. 4,468 nationally, an improvement of 1,022 positions from its verified 2023–24 ranking, and was listed among the top 25% of ranked public high schools nationwide.

A proud moment for Hamilton Elementary

This recognition follows another major honor for Hamilton Elementary. Last year, the school was named a 2024–25 Michigan Blue Ribbon School by the Michigan Department of Education. Hamilton Elementary was one of only 16 schools statewide to receive the distinction, which recognizes academic achievement, student growth and a safe, welcoming environment.

Congratulations to the students, staff and families at Hamilton High School, Hamilton Middle School, Blue Star Elementary, Bentheim Elementary and Hamilton Elementary. These honors reflect the dedication and care that make our schools strong, and the support of the entire Hawkeye community.
