Blue Star Elementary students had no shortage of excitement when it came to showing off their brand-new playground — and they took the lead in telling the story themselves.

With a GoPro camera in hand, fourth grader Teigen gave the community a student’s-eye view of the new space, interviewing classmates and teachers about their favorite parts of the playground. From the big spinning “Christmas tree” to the yellow stand-up swings, the drums and maracas in the music area, and plenty of climbing equipment, students shared their joy and gratitude for the new additions.

“My favorite part of the Blue Star playground is that it has new wood chips and there’s a lot more equipment for a lot more people,” Teigen explained in the video. Other students chimed in with their favorite features, while staff members praised the playground for offering both safety and variety.

The energy and laughter in the video made it clear — this new space is already a hit.

Blue Star’s playground upgrades were made possible through the 2023 bond proposal, which provided significant improvements to all Hamilton Community Schools elementary playgrounds. The district extends a heartfelt thank you to the community for its support in making these enhancements possible.

“Everyone likes new toys, right?” fourth grade teacher, Mr. S said with a smile. “It’s such a gift to see the kids so excited and engaged with their new playground.”
