On Tuesday, June 3, more than 100 community members, former students, and staff gathered at Hamilton Elementary School for a special open house event—one that marked both a farewell and a celebration of the future.
Attendees had the opportunity to take one final walk through the school’s original wing, which has served generations of students and will be torn down following the conclusion of this school year. Guests had a chance to reflect on the rich history of the space with longtime educators and staff members.
The evening continued with brief remarks from Hamilton Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Brad Lusk and Board of Education member Loren Joostberns, followed by a ribbon cutting to officially open the school’s brand-new replacement wing. The new space, which will house second grade, special education, and STEM classrooms, was made possible by the community’s support of the 2023 bond proposal.
“The support from our community has made this vision a reality,” said Dr. Lusk. “This new wing will serve Hawkeyes for decades to come.”
An additional open house will be held in August once the new space is fully set up and ready to welcome students for the 2025-26 school year.
