Hamilton High School senior student-athletes recently had the opportunity to participate in the OK Black Leadership Summit alongside seniors from six other schools in our conference: Holland, Holland Christian, Zeeland East, Zeeland West, Spring Lake, and Unity Christian.
The summit focused on key leadership skills for student-athletes, including sportsmanship, communication, and leaving a positive legacy on their teams and communities. It also provided real-world scenarios and discussions to help students think critically about challenges they may face in sports and life.
Hamilton senior Maleena Luckadoo shared her experience: “Some of the topics gave real-life examples to the senior athletes here of like what might happen on your team, how you might handle it, different aspects of leadership. One of my favorites was a would you rather—it makes you really think about what you would do in certain situations you wouldn’t have thought about before.”
The event was also a great opportunity to strengthen relationships across the conference, fostering community and collaboration among student-athletes. Hamilton Athletic Director Eric Talsma helped organize the summit, ensuring a meaningful experience for all participants.
