The Hamilton High School boys varsity soccer team is making waves early in the 2025 season. Under second-year head coach Noah Chambers, the Hawkeyes have opened with a 3-0-1 record, marking one of the best starts in program history.
“So early in the season, we’ve already hit some significant milestones,” Chambers said. “We tied Holland, a former state champion. To my knowledge, we’ve never had a result against them before. That kind of success has raised our expectations for what we’re capable of this season and created a better image for the program.”
Hamilton’s impressive start includes wins over Zeeland West and Black River, along with that tie against Holland. For a program that has struggled in recent years, the early momentum is energizing both players and coaches.
“It just feels really good to have a winning record so far,” said senior Griffin Bolhuis. “It feels a lot better compared to last season. Just being able to score goals has made a huge difference. Last year, we really struggled to score, but this year we’ve had no trouble putting the ball in the net.”
The team credits its offseason work and improved chemistry for the turnaround. Chambers says they’ve embraced a “shared vision” for what Hamilton soccer can become.
“We put in a lot of good work in the offseason,” he added. “We’ve come together as a team, and we’re starting to believe in the same goals."
Senior Connor Schrotenboer is hoping to rewrite expectations for the program, this season and beyond.
"Hamilton soccer has been a struggling program, but we’re hoping to change that this year. Hopefully, we can finish with a winning record and make a good run in districts.”
