Hungry for Christ Food Ministries and Hamilton Community Schools have teamed up once again to make a major impact on the community. Through the recent WOODTV Football Frenzy Tailgate Can Drive, students, families, and community members collected over 5,400 canned goods and food items—a record-breaking effort that will directly support local families in need.
Tracy Brower, Executive Director of Hungry for Christ, praised the strong and growing partnership between the two organizations.
“We have been partnering with Hamilton Community Schools for a number of years. They’ve been a fantastic partner,” Brower said. “This particular drive has been over the top. We are ecstatic—so excited.”
While HCS has hosted many successful food and can drives in the past, this year’s effort stands out not only for its size but also for the dedication of the students leading the way. Brower highlighted the work of HHS Student Support Coordinator, Kaylee Dykema, who played a key role in organizing the event.
“Kaylee is an amazing young lady,” Brower shared. “She’s a great organizer and makes sure everything is running smoothly. We couldn’t do what we do without her.”
The collected food will stay within the local community, providing support for students and families who are struggling to put meals on the table. Hungry for Christ has seen a 30% increase in need over the past year, making the donations more important than ever.
“This food will stay locally and support families and students that are really just struggling,” Brower said. “When the community comes together like this and supplies all of these canned goods and food for our local families and students, we just applaud and say thank you so much.”
