The Hamilton girls tennis program added another impressive accolade this spring as senior Sophie Blauwkamp and sophomore Erin Meiste were named First Team All-State by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association.
The honor comes after an exceptional season for the Hawkeye doubles tandem, which consistently ranked among the top teams in Division 3 throughout the year.
Blauwkamp and Meiste compiled a 22-2 regular season record and finished 25-2 overall when including scrimmages. Along the way, they earned All-Conference honors, finished as conference finalists, won a regional championship, and entered the MHSAA Division 3 State Finals as the No. 4 seed. The pair advanced to the state quarterfinals while helping Hamilton compete against the state's top programs.
Head coach Steve Lubbers credited the duo's chemistry and ability to complement one another on the court.
"Soph and Erin had games that gelled and complemented each other wonderfully," Lubbers said. "They played some very talented teams and always found a way to win."
In addition to their All-State recognition, Blauwkamp and Meiste were selected to the All-Holland Area Team and earned Holland Athlete of the Week honors three times during the season.
Hamilton also had two additional players recognized at the state level, as seniors Taylor Heer and Maddie Jipping were named All-State Honorable Mention.
The individual honors highlight another successful season for the Hawkeyes. Hamilton finished ninth at the MHSAA Division 3 State Team Finals, marking yet another strong postseason performance for a program that continues to compete among the state's best.
