For over two decades, the Hamilton Community Pool has been an invaluable asset to the district and surrounding area, providing a space for fitness, recreation, and community connection. Led by Pool Director Matt Oonk, who is now in his fourth year overseeing operations, the facility remains a vibrant part of Hamilton’s athletic and wellness programs.

“We are very, very lucky to have the facility that we have here in Hamilton, particularly based on the size of our community,” Oonk said. “The pool was built back in 2001, so it’s definitely not old by any stretch of the imagination. We use it for community events, open swims, and even pool party rentals. Of course, it’s also a huge part of our swim and dive program, as well as our age group and recreational swim activities.”

Open Swim Opportunities

Hamilton Community Pool offers multiple open swim sessions throughout the week, providing opportunities for residents to stay active in a low-impact, enjoyable way. The current open swim schedule includes:

  • Morning Swim: Monday through Friday, 5:30 – 7:30 a.m.
  • Midday Swim: Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Evening Swim: Wednesdays and Fridays, 5:45 – 7:15 p.m.

These sessions allow individuals of all ages to engage in aquatic exercise, which several community members, including Tim Sneller have benefited from.

“I had both knees replaced this year, and swimming has been a great rehab for me,” Sneller shared. “I used to swim a lot in the mornings before work, and I think it’s a great form of exercise.”

For those interested in regular access to the pool, Hamilton Community Pool offers three types of annual memberships:

“If you’re interested in purchasing an annual pass, you can reach out to me directly via email ( moonk@hamiltonschools.us ) or phone,” Oonk said. “I can’t think of a better exercise, regardless of age—getting in the water is a great way to stay healthy, and that’s something we want to encourage.”
