After a 38-year career with General Motors, Greg Easterling thought retirement might slow things down. Instead, he found a new sense of purpose—and a lot of fresh air—through his work with Hamilton Community Schools.

Greg joined HCS as part of the maintenance and grounds crew, where he plays an important role, especially during the winter months. From clearing snow at school entrances to making sure walkways around our buildings are safe and accessible, Greg helps ensure students, staff, and visitors can come and go safely—no matter what Michigan weather brings.

“There’s a lot of area to cover, and you never know what the weather’s going to do,” Greg shared. “But I like being outside, and I really enjoy what I’m doing.”

Greg and his wife moved to Hamilton a little over two years ago to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law. Since then, he’s embraced both the community and his new role, appreciating the friendly people and the chance to give back in a meaningful way.

“I think it’s pretty important to keep all the entryways clear—not just for students, but for parents and grandparents too,” Greg said. “We just try to keep things as safe as we can.”

Hamilton Community Schools is grateful for Greg’s dedication, positive attitude, and willingness to step up—especially during those cold, snowy mornings. His story is a great reminder that retirement can open the door to new opportunities and new ways to serve.
