April 20, 2023 is volunteer appreciation day! At Hamilton Community Schools, we are blessed with outstanding volunteers every day, from reading support, to playground and lunch duty, they fill many roles.
Mary Slagh is no exception. After working for the district as a reading paraprofessional for 23 years, Slagh retired in 2019 and has been volunteering at Blue Star Elementary and Hamilton Elementary ever since.
"I come once a week for a few hours and really enjoy helping the kids as they develop their reading skills," Slagh said. "Just to see them grow from the beginning of the year and move up through the levels, especially at this young age, it's so fun to see how quickly they develop."
