Hamilton Community Schools recently hosted its annual DIG IN! Day, giving every 5th grade student a hands-on introduction to the many pathways within the construction industry. Held each December, the event brings together local professionals who guide students through interactive stations focused on plumbing, electrical work, HVAC systems, interior design, architecture, construction management and administration, low-voltage installation, marketing, carpentry, and essential tools of the trade.
Throughout the day, students rotated through each station, gaining firsthand experience with equipment, learning how various roles contribute to building projects, and discovering the teamwork required to create the spaces where people live, learn, and work. The event encourages curiosity and confidence while helping students see the wide range of opportunities available in skilled trades and related fields.
DIG IN! Day is made possible through the generous support of community partners who invest their time and expertise into the experience. This year’s contributors included GMB Architecture + Engineering, ROUTE, EV Construction, Milwaukee Tools, O-A-K, DHE Plumbing and Mechanical, Town and Country Group, Buist Electric, Godwin Plumbing, and Sobie Company. Their participation plays a key role in helping students explore real-world skills and discover potential future pathways.
