Laura Blowers didn't grow up in Hamilton. In fact, she didn't even know where Hamilton was prior to moving here over 15 years ago.

"I grew up in Iowa, my husband grew up in Minnesota, then we lived in Idaho, we moved to Arizona where I taught for a year, and then moved to Iowa where I taught second grade for four years. After that, we moved to Traverse City and then Hamilton," she added.

At first, Blowers admits she was hesitant about being in Hamilton after fears of not fitting in.

"I was a little bit nervous about moving here because it's such a small town and everyone knows each other and so many people are related," Blowers said. "I've loved being here, people have been really welcoming to us."

For 17 years, Laura and her husband have made their home in Hamilton. Mrs. Blowers has been teaching fifth grade at Hamilton Middle School for 15 years now but the 2022-23 school year will be her last as she gets set to retire.

"My husband is semi-retired and we want to do a lot of traveling, we have a lot of trips booked to go hiking and biking," Blowers added. "I think I'm just ready, I'm going to miss this, the routine, the kids, the people at HMS, I do love it, but I'm ready to do some other things."

Thank you for all of your work, Laura and enjoy retirement!
